Our Story & Promise
Technology Solutions for Business Needs Since 1984
Nothing seems to be more frustrating then knowing what you want and not being able to have it. That was Merle’s problem in 1984 when he was a concert promoter and needed a way to keep track of his artists, budget, contracts, contacts (which at the time would have been in a rolodex), venues and purchasers. So, Merle did the logical thing and created a booking system that he needed and worked the way a booking agent and concert promoter needed it to.

It didn’t take long for other agents and concert promoters to see the Book-It program Merle had created and wanted to use this time saver for themselves. In 1986 EBT opened its door to sell Book-It!, the first version of our powerful, well-used and time-tested booking agency software.

Nearly thirty years later our technology and software has changed and adapted to all the technological changes with innovation and stability. This very website you’re looking at was originally developed in 1993. Although the colors, graphics, and layouts may have changed there is one thing that has not: our commitment to customer service (and our love of colors).

We at EBT pride ourselves on our relationships with our customers and the service we provide. We have customers that have been with us since 1992. In fact Tom Ingegno  from OmniPop  bought Book-It when it was a DOS Program and has upgraded with us through all the incarnations of the Book-It program as technology has improved.  It has also been said by one client that "they really have their act together".

How do we keep clients for so long? It’s simple: we take the time to know and understand our customers needs so that we can provide them the best service and product possible. We believe in quality and results and our software and services provide that for our clients. By taking the time to understand what you need we ensure your satisfaction with Book-It, and any service that EBT provides.

Meet Our Owner: Kelli Helmuth
(As told in her own words.)
Hello, I’m Kelli Helmuth.  A little bit about me personally: I’m a self-proclaimed news junkie, music promoter, and dog lover.  Meaning I'm nosy and want to know what is going on in the world, any chance to promote music I take, and I own a dog, and would own several, but my beloved terrier wouldn't appreciate that.

Like many people I really enjoy social media and because the love of music is why I started in the business I provide the music selection on our Artist Avail’s Top 5 Shower Re-Cap . It also means I get to do much of the linking and communicating on Facebook, Google+, and Twitter

I may look young but I have been in this business for nearly twenty years. I began working for Merle in 1999 and fell in love with this company. I'm always excited by the ideas and innovations of our team, and I'm proud to be the owner now.

Merle is a wealth of information but he’s met his match in me when playing his infamous game of, “Name that Song, Artist, and Year.”
When I first started in this business I did two things: answer phones and filing. I hated filing (still do), but I loved when I answered phones and could actually help people.  Although customer support has its challenges I truly do enjoy helping our customers and those who are looking for help.

One of my first memories of working the phones is when I accidentally called a wrong number. I started to apologize for the error, but the male voice on the other end asked if I knew where I had called?  I answered ‘no’ and the voice asked where I was calling from, I replied, “Texas”. He then proceeded to say, “Well Texas you just called Brooklyn, New York. I hope you have a great day!” I said to him, “Thank you, I will and I hope you do too!”

That one conversation has stuck with me for years and influenced the way I answered the phones and looked at customer service. From then on I wanted to be like that Brooklyn voice and welcome people, even if they were a wrong number. Here at EBT you get more than just a software company you get guidance and a voice on the phone you can count on to help you. That’s our guarantee and my personal vow.

Meet the Founder: Merle
Merle, started his musical career off early. By the time he was nine years old he had learned that there should be an ‘11’ on the amp volume, especially when blasting out Johnny Cash.

With music a constant companion Merle learned how to play the drums and by the time he was in college was playing with the band, Constellations.

From playing in a band Merle became a booking agent and then a concert promoter, promoting such bands as Night Ranger, the Guess Who, Otis Day, John Kay with Steppenwolf, Saga, and Starship.

While Merle was out promoting he started to need a system that would help him keep track of everything.
When he couldn’t find a system he could use he sat down and wrote his own program in 1984 called, Book-It.

Several booking agents and other promoters noticed what he was using and asked Merle if they could use the system too.

Merle said yes and thus began, Entertainment Business & Technology. Once Book-It began to take off Merle stepped away from concert promoting and started to sell his software.
Today, many years later, Merle is still in the technology business creating software that is written for booking agents, promoters, and artists. With a unique insider knowledge Merle has been able to help hundreds of people  by helping them to become more organized, market their artists better, and to help their agents to truly make a positive financial impact on their business.

Merle knows what works and what doesn’t. Although no longer managing the day-to-day operation of EBT Merle is still available for consultations or guidance. He can help you with your entertainment business needs with straight facts, no BSing, and great results. Just don’t change his radio. He has been in agencies, he owns his own business and he understand this industry.  He can help you navigate through software to reach a solution that you feel comfortable with and are happy to use.
